William Anderson Bryden
Notes: From 'Bryden & Cowper' "went as a young man to Adelaide, South Australia in 1841. There he became partner with Mr.Rober(t?) Miller, a Scotsman, in a large and successful mercantile and shipping business. He made a fortune of some £50,000 and, having retired returned to England finally in 1853 or thereabouts. He lived with his family first at Banbury, in Oxfordshire, next at Clapham Common, Surrey (1861-78): afterwards at Moor Field, Surbiton, Surrey till 1898 and died at Eastbourne in 1900. He was a man of fine presence, six feet in height, splendidly set up, of ruddy complexion and dark hair. One of the most pleasant tempered men in the world, the soul of honour and a great favourite wherever he went". William married Maria Cowper. (Maria Cowper was born in 1824 in Northamptonshire, died on 12 Sep 1904 and was buried in Eastbourne, Sussex.) |
