William John# Bateman

  • Marriage: Unknown

  Notes:

Info from Bateman research (vaguely backed up by AG-P research, although this had Wm John as Henry's father!). "Of Burton on Trent".

IGI;
There was a Gulielmus Batman (sic) chr 24 Aug 1729 in Burton, father Gulielmi and mother Sarae, could be this be him as I believe Gulielmus is William? - I couldn't find this record in the St Modwen parish records - presumably different parish?

A William Bateman married an Ann Patrick, 7 May 1753, Burton. In the St Modwen parish register is looks more like 'Pattrick'.

There was a William Bateman chr 4 May 1783 at Burton, father William, mother Mary, could be a son, but 15 yr gap from Thomas, so seems unlikely. Could be 2nd marriage, highly speculative tho' - later found this entry in the St Modwen Parish Register.
A more likely son found in the St Modwen Parish Register is; "Baptism; 21st Dec 1765, Wm, son of Wm and Ann Batman(sic)" .
Thomas born 1768 (here for reference).

Other St Modwen Bateman(or similar) entries; (surnames as given);
5th Apr 1696, Bapt, Sara, dau of Johannib and Anna Batman - same couple as below presumably.
26th Mar 1698, Bapt, John, son of John and Ann Bateman
28th Feb 1724, Burial, Johanes, pater familias (& pauper). Batman de Wins.... (prob Winsel)
20th Aug 1727, Burial, Anna, vidua, Batman de Winsel
17th July 1741, Bapt, Sarah, dau of John and Elizabeth Battman
15th Oct 1742, Bapt, Ann, dau of John and Elizabeth Battman
26th Mar 1744, Marriage, John Battman and Mary Wood. Perhaps the John bapt 1698?
1st Jan 1749, Bapt, Hannah dau of John and Mary Battman de Winsel (presum couple married in '44)
'Winsel' is presumably 'Winshill' - now a suburb of BuT - just east of the Trent.
From a grave in St Modwen's we also have;
Elizabeth Bateman 1675 - 1740 and her husband John 1690 - 1760

So possibly it is;
William Bateman and Sarah issue;
Wm John Bateman (1729) and Ann Patrick (married 1753) issue;
William (1765) and
Thomas (1768-1808)
but big gap between John and Ann marrying and identified children, although could have had others of course.

William married.
