Born either 1740 or 45.
From Tim Lacy-Hulbert; she married a Thomas Wood and this is the line Tim is descended from, via their dau Anna. There IS some confusion over chr date. and Marriage; Painswick Parish Records give " Thos Wood of Birmingham in the County of Warwick & Mary Horlick otp were married in this Church by licence this 19 day of Jan'ry 1772 by me J Mosely Vicr. This marriage was solemnised between us Thomas Wood Mary Horlick in the presence of Zacharias Horlick, Ann Lander" and MARY WOOD (nee HORLICK) -Charles Hulbert's Memoirs.p. 207. And Hulbert's" Phillip's History and Antiquities of Shrewsbury 1831 (2nd Ed) Page 235. Died " on Sunday morning 28 Aug 1808 in her 64th year, Mrs Wood relict of the late Thomas Wood". CELL-H gives 29 Aug 1808 ie 1 day different- and birth 1748, which agrees with 64th year above, presumably sourced through Charles Hulbert. and Search of parish Records does not show baptism of Mary Horlick between 1741-1749. Nearest is "23 May 1745 Mary daughter of Zachariah and Hannah Hornet." This would seem to be the most likely although there is a discrepancy between this and Charles Hulbert's memoirs.I am therefore suspicious of his memory of her age- these memoirs were written in 1852 and, as he continually laments, he lost many of his notes in a destructive fire of his house and printing shop in 1839. Most of his dates where I have been able to check them are correct but possibly this is one where he is wrong.
The History and Antiquities of Shrewsbury states that the following character of Mrs Wood appeared in the Obituary of the Gospel Magazine, November 1808 "On Sunday, the 28th August, departed this life in the 64th year of her age, Mrs.Mary Wood, relict of the late Mr.T.Wood, printer of the Shrewsbury Chronicle. To enlarge on the numerous excellencies of this much respected women, or to describe the effects which during the greater part of an useful life .......etc. etc."
Mary married Thomas Wood on 17 Jan 1772 in Painswick, Glos. (Thomas Wood was born in 1746, christened on 10 Aug 1746 in Painswick, Glos and died on 7 Apr 1801.)
