Info from Lynne Hicks; The information I would like to share with you is the mother of Anne Watkins, Rachel Parry, also a female watchmaker from Abergavenny who married a William Watkins, but I'm not sure what his profession was. Anne had three sisters and one brother who all moved to Coventry. Rachel Watkins (nee Parry): ca. 1781-1848 In Brian Loomes book: Watchmakers & Clockmakers Of The World it states that Rachel was a watchmaker in Abergavenny from 1822-1835. 1841 census:- Rachel and her three children. Mary, William and Caroline live in the High Street, Abergavenny, MONM. Possibly died of enteritis in Abergavenny, 1848. Mary Ann Watkins: 1806-1891 Mary remained a spinster and moved to Coventry between 1848 and 1851. 1851 census:- Mary and her siblings, William and Caroline, live in Craven Street, Coventry, WARW. 1861 census:- Caroline, her sister Mary and a boarder, Allan M Harris, live at 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. 1871 census:- Mary and her sister Caroline, live at 21, Butts, Coventry St Thomas, WARW. 1881 census:- Mary and her sister Caroline are living at 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. They receive a private income from their properties. 1891:- Mary and her sister Caroline live in Allersley Road, 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. Throughout the censuses Mary's DoB varies considerably. William Watkins: 1810-1866 William remained a bachelor and moved to Coventry between ca. 1851. Brian Loomes book: Watchmakers and Clockmakers Of The World state that William was a watchmaker in Abergavenny from 1830-1850. 1851 census:- William and his sisters. Mary and Caroline, live in Craven Street, Coventry, WARW Caroline Watkins: 1813-1893 Caroline remained a spinster and moved to Coventry between 1848 and 1851. 1851 census:- Caroline and her siblings, Mary and William, live in Craven Street, Coventry, WARW. 1861 census;- Caroline, her sister Mary and a boarder, Allan M Harris, live at 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. 1871 census:- Caroline and her sister Mary, live at 21, Butts, Coventry St Thomas, WARW. 1881 census:- Caroline and her sister Mary, live at 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. They receive a private income from their properties. 1891 census:- Caroline and her sister Mary, live at Allersley Road, 3, Oxford Terrace, Coventry, WARW. Throughout the censuses Carolines DoB varies considerably. Sarah Agnes Watkins: ca. 1817-1877 1841 census: Sarah is living with her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and James Hoddell in Albion Street, St John's, Coventry, WARW. 1851 census: Sarah and James live in Duke Street, St Michael's, Coventry, WARW. Sarah married James Fleming, a watch cap maker from Liverpool in Coventry 1847. ca. 1815-1878 Rachel's husband William, born ca. 1772 and died before the 1841 census may have been a watchmaker, although I found nothing with his name in that field, but I suppose Rachel's father may also have been a watchmaker!
Ann married James Hoddell, son of James Hoddell and Mary Pritchard, in 1834. (James Hoddell was born in 1813 in Clodock, Herefordshire and died in 1889 in Coventry, Warwicks.)
