Notes:
Info as parents of Absalom from a familysearch ancestry file. This also gave other childrens names and thus found in '41, however info from Michelle Chamberlain, backed up by research at NY CRO led me to change HIS parents - originally had as Thomas Chapman and Elizabeth Cowling.
NYCRO; Bapt record says son of James Chapman of Worton ; no other Thos Chapmans bapt in Askrigg around the same time, so seems fairly certain, although could have been born in Worton and bapt elsewhere, but too much of a coincidence really.
NYCRO; Wedding record says Thomas Chapman of Worton married Isabella Moor of Thwaite Bridge at Hardrow Parish Church on 31st Oct 1811.
1841 Census; Living as head, age 50 (rounded) in Worton, Askrigg with wife and children and grandchild Isabella. Occupation; Butcher. A Christopher Chapman (50) is living next door - possibly this is his twin that Michelle mentioned ?
1851 Census; Living as head, age 62, at Bainbridge, Yorks with wife, dau and apprentice. Occupation; Butcher and Farmer.
Possibly he is the Thomas Chapman who died in Askrigg district in Q2 1852.
1861 Census; Can't find.
However John B found a Thomas in the 1861 and 1871 that suggest he lived longer than previously thought; 1861 . 72 years old, a widower, living in Worton with his housekeeper Jemmima Pounder 35 and her son William 5. Farming 13 acres. 1871 82 years old, still living in Worton with his housekeeper Jemmima 45 and William 15, a lead miner (dresser). Farming 12 acres. National Probate Calendar dated 1872 mentioning his sons appears to confirm this is the right Thomas.
Probate Calendar entry reads; Chapman, Thomas. Effects under £200. 5 October. The Will of Thomas Chapman late of Worton in the Parish of Aysgarth in the County of York Farmer who died 31 August 1872 at Worton was proved at York by Absalom Chapman of Aysgarth in the said Parish Butcher Eleazar Chapman of Worton Relieving Officer of the Aysgarth Union and Azariah Chapman of Askrigg in the said Parish Butcher the Sons the Executors.
