Burke's LG; "Of Scruton, b in 1597, who m Frances dau of Conyers, of Holtby, and by her, who died in 1656, left at his decease an only surviving child the Rev Thomas Gale DD."
Bapt from 'The Parish Register of Scruton' booklet which also gives note thus "Christopher Gale was the father of Dr Thomas Gale, sometime Dean of York. Christopher's father John is shown in the Gale pedigrees as a grandson of George Gale, the goldsmith who was twice Lord Mayor of York. However the editor argues elsewhere ('The Gales of Scruton' Teeside M.A. dissertation, 1988) that this relationship is improbable, and that John is likely to have been a son of the Richard Gale who married Mary Danby (see footnote 1/1)."
Christopher married Frances Conyers, daughter of Conyers and Unknown. (Frances Conyers died in 1656.)
