Notes:
Info from James Maule said "Of Ecton"
His burial record in Ecton says "1703 April 1st Mr. Henry Bagley formerly of CHALCOM gentleman"
"It was recast from an earlier Henry Bagley of Chacombe bell of 1679" - so still in Chacombe in '79 and (Bythorn) "In 1682, the bells were taken down and the old bell cage removed. A new treble bell was added, cast by Henry Bagley of Ecton". So probably moved around this time.
Shinfield church "The 4th bell was cast by Henry Bagley III, who normally cast in Northamptonshire , but in 1722 he had a temporary foundry in Reading. " This is presumably a son.
Ecton in British History online "From about 1687 to 1703 Henry Bagley, who is buried in the church, carried on a bellfoundry in Ecton." and "in 1678 Thomas Hackoll bought the manor of Ecton, situated in the Abbot's or Prior's Hyde, from William Bernard for the sum of £650. In 1689 Nicholas, son of Thomas Hackoll leased this property for a term of 900 years to Henry Bagley, bell-founder in Ecton, and in the same year he sold him the mansion house of Ecton. After this date no further trace of the Warden manor has been found."
Master Bell Founder, did the bells for Lichfield Cathedral and many other places.
The Church Bells of Surrey "Two bells in the county are the workmanship of two members of a well-known bell-founding family the Bagleys who, starting originally at Chacombe, Northants, appear to have branched out in various directions. Matthew Bagley, the nephew of Henry, the first at Chacombe, came to London in or about 168750(?) I find from the Books of the Founders' Company and died there in 1715. The single bell at Tooting is by him, and bears the date 1705. There is also at Woodmansterne a bell (the 2nd), dated 1717, in- scribed " James Bagley fecit." I know nothing of this James ; he may have been Matthew's son and successor. "
The Bells of St. Mary Magdalene; "Despite the proximity of the bell foundry belonging to Henry Bagley and Thomas Franklin, none of Ecton’s six bells was cast there, although it is said that Thomas launched the fund for the bells, the earliest of which are dated 1612, long before he got involved in bell casting. However the Treble, the latest of the bells, was cast by a later descendant of Bagleys, probably in a bell pit in the church-yard."
"Matthew Bagley, the son of John Bagley, of Chacombe, Northants, was bapt 6th April 1653 and served his time with his Uncle, Henry Bagley, a well-known bell-founder...."
