http://www.turtlebunbury.com/family/bunburyfamily_related/bunbury_family_related_martin.html says On 30 Sep 1645, Samuel's father, George Martin of Whitehouse, near Belfast, was elected a Burgess of Belfast. In June 1647, he was appointed Sovereign of Belfast (the term then applied to Mayor) but, when he refused to billet Ireton's soldiers in 1649, he was evicted from his house with his wife, seven sons and one daughter.
http://svgancestry.com/index.php/martin-of-antigua-st-vincent ; Col. George MARTIN of Whitehouse (near Belfast), was elected mayor or the Sovereign of Belfast, Ireland, in September, 1649. He was known to be a royalist, and his property was confiscated by Cromwells Roundheads, most likely in the 1650?s. He fled Cromwellswrath and settled in Surinam, where he died before 1667. He is said to have had eight sons, including Samuel MARTIN, Robert MARTIN and John MARTIN. No other information known.

Robert, merchant stapler 1661, owned gabart pressed in Jacobite wars; had government debentures for advance of money to Williamite forces which were never paid. son Samuel daughter: Elizabeth = (1 William Anderson, merchant of Belfast, (died 1676), and = (2 Patrick Adair, presbyterian minister of Belfast (died 1694). nephew or cousin: James Martin, merchant of Dublin, a leading presbyterian, will proved 9 May 1727, related to the Smiths and Whites of Belfast and Dublin. grandson: Captain Samuel Martin of Greencastle, Antigua, died 27 Dec. 1701
