From Wendy; "he has a big write up in the National Biography. Had been Editor of the Edinburgh Advertiser. Then the Globe in London and resigned 1869 to become the referee for the Gas Board. He had always been interested in Chemistry. He returned to Glasgow and became Editor of the Glasgow News but returned to London because of ill health. He was also highly regarded as a financial expert"

Robert married Georgina Thomson, daughter of Capt. Thomson and Unknown, in 1848.
