Educated at Trinity College Dublin. Elected fellow 1764; doctor of divinity 1779; professor of astronomy 1783. He chose Dunsink, County Dublin, for the site of the college observatory, planned the building, supervised construction, and procured the equipment. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society 1785 and contributed papers, including 'An account of an aurora borealis seen in full sunshine'. Original member of the Royal Irish Academy. He died at his house in Harcourt Street, Dublin, on 8 May 1790.
Henry married Mary Burne.
