Louisa Bartlett

NB: Ian Moorby reports (Oct 2015) that my research above this is incorrect and that her father was Edwin Barlett. ;
1/ Looking on BMD for Staffordshire there is a Louisa born 1864 in Lichfield and the mothers maiden name was Cooke.
2/ Have a marriage certificate for Sophia Cook b1843 married to "Edwin" Bartlett b1829 1863 in Cannock.
Looking on Online parish clerks Lancashire there is a baptism for Louisa Bartlett in Dalton in Furness --Father "Edward" Bartlett mother Sophia, but no birth or death in Lancashire for a Louisa Bartlett so it would appear that the family moved up there soon after Louisa was born, and stayed there according to census returns.


1871 Census; (age 4) living in No 28 Ofield (?) Street, Sedgley, Wolverhampton with parents and siblings. Birthplace given as Bilston.

1881 Census; Was living (age 14) at 35 Cape St, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England with parents and 4 siblings.

John Moorby, 25, Bachelor, Labourer, Giggleswick, Wm Moorby, Labourer
Louisa Bartlett, 20, Spinster, Millhand, Giggleswick, Edwin Bartlett, Labourer.
Witnesses; William Moorby and Elizabeth Jane Moorby.

1891 Census; Living at Poor House Yard, Albert Hill, Settle with husband, son and daughter.

1891 Census gives birthplace as Stafford. But 1871 says Bilston (about 10 miles away).

1901 Census; (age 36) Living at Church Street, Giggleswick with husband and 5 children. Eldest children John Thomas and Sarah are living with their Uncle.

Louisa married John Moorby, son of William Moorby and Sarah Hardacre, on 31 Jan 1885 in Giggleswick, Settle, N.Yorks. (John Moorby was born in 1859 in Twiston, Chatburn, Lancs..)
