1871 Census (age 6) is living at Preston Deanery, Northants with parents and 6 siblings, a governess and 2 servants. Occupation; Scholar.

1881 Census (age 17) is living at The Grange, Earls Barton, Wellingborough, Northants with parents,3 siblings, a cousin (Julia Rice, 23, born in Coweteenhall(?!), Northants) and 2 servants. Unmarried. No occupation.

1891 Census (age 26) is living at Brewery House No 2, High Street, Towcester, Northants with parents, 2 siblings and 2 servants. Single. Occupation; Brewer (presum. for his uncle - this confirmed by 'Phipps of Bugbrooke ...." etc.).

1901 Census (age 36) living as head at 5 High Street, Towcester, Northants with wife, 3 children and 3 servants. Occupation; Brewer.

1911 Census; Info from Liz Hacking ; they are living at The Hollies, Lower Street, Tettenhall, Wolvs (which is no longer there) ; now flats.

1921 Census; Living as 'head' (age 56y,.9m) at The Hollies, Lower Street, Tettenhall, Wolvs with wife, son, dau and 2 x servants. Occupation; Brewer xxxxx xxxxx Merchant, employer, Johnson & Phipps, Lichfield St, Wolvs. Occupying 11 rooms.

Liz also reports that her "house (Stockwell End House, just down the road from The Hollies) was bought by the Phipps' in 1922. After Richard died in 1935 Edith carried on living here - she is listed in Kelly's Directory of Stafford (1936) - but sold the house in 1938. At some point she took the bottom part of what was then the grounds to the house and built herself a house, Woodstock (23 Lothians Road). She is listed in the 1940 version of the same directory as living there."

Richard married Edith Louisa Whitton Q1 1896 in Towcester, Northants. (Edith Louisa Whitton was born in 1870 in Towcester, Northants and died after 1940.)
