Lilian Gibson
- Marriage (1): Charles Cecil Bateman FRGS in Mar 1912
Notes:
From Wendy; Have found her on 1911 census in Dublin age 22. She is at Mosaphir Terrace, Kingsdown as a sister in law to Sabine Lizzie, husband of Theophilus Frederick Walter Ricketts - retired army officer born in Uruguay. Both daughters of William Gibson but Sabine a lot older than Lilian and on further research Sabine is from the first marriage (ie daughter of Emily Rachel Tucker daughter of Admiral Tucker) and Lilian May from second marriage to Sophia Charlotte White daughter of Henry White of Queens County, Ireland. Later; I didn't get it quite right as William Gibson didn't marry his second wife (who I assumed was Lilian's mother until 1910) so she must have the same mother as her much older sister - William Gibson married Emily Rachel Tucker Saltash Cornwall 1868. Lilian was born c1889 More invesitgation required. What it does mean though to me is that if Emily was Lilian's mother then she is an ancestor of my grandmother Murie.
From Wendy H; Times Feb 28 1912 : Another March wedding will be that of Mr C Cecil Bateman, elder son of Colonel Bateman, late 1st Battalion (31st) East Surrey Regiment and Miss Lilian Gibson, youngest daughter of Captain Gibson of Glen Druid, Shankhill Co.Dublin, and a niece of Lord Ashbourne.
From Philip/Anthony Bateman; Found in National Archives of South Africa; 1923 RESTITUTION OF CONJUGAL RIGHTS. LILIAN MAY BATEMAN (BORN GIBSON) VERSUS CHARLES CECIL. This proves Bateman was married to Gibson ....... but presumably divorced soon after this date.
More from Wendy; Feb 6 1868 William Gibson at St Stephen's by Saltash Cornwall HM 40 Regiment to Emily daughter of Vice Admiral John Jervis Tucker of Tremston castle Cornwall. Grooom's uncle Rev Charles E Gibson of Cheltenham officiated. Was double wedding with Emily's sister Bessie who married a William Dunn Gainsford of Sheffield.

Freeman's Journal (Dublin) Fashions & Varieties October 2 1896 Big, big article on wedding - goes on for columns and mentions Lilian! At the doors the bride was met by the Bridesmaids Misses Mollie and Lilian Gibson sisters of the bride, two pretty little girls wearing white silk princess costumes and picture hats to match. white felt trimmed with with velvet and osprey feathers of the colour….The bridesmaids wore gold scroll brooches set with diamonds and pearls and carried shower bouquets. After the ceremony the newly wedded couple passed down the crowded church graciously acknowledging the warm congratulations that met them at every step.
