The engagement is announced and the marriage will shortly take place, very quietly of H Bertram Bateman, younger son of the late Colonel Bateman, 31st (East Surrey) Regiment APD and of Mrs Bateman 36 Ashworth Mansions, London and Joan Oxley, daughter of Mr Fred C Hill, of Squarew House, Lathom Lancs. Presumably this was her second marriage.

Joan Oxley Bateman (nee Hill) Born 7 Sep 1891 Ormskirk, died Lancaster Q4 1971.
1901 Age 9 Census living with widowed Solicitor father Frederick C Hill and 4 siblings - Dorothy 14, Madeline 13, Evelyn 12 and Charles Guy Roper Hill 5 at Square Lane, Lathom, Lancaster.
Frederick Charles Hill married Helen Mary Roper in 1882. She was born 1858 daughter of George Roper (Land Agent) and Helen.
Helen Mary Hill died Q1 1897. They lived in Cranes Lane, Lathom.

1921 Census; living as wife (aged 29y,9m) at Manor House, Marston, Oxford with husband and servant. Occupying 8 rooms.

Joan married Henry Bertram Bateman, son of Col. Henry William Bateman and Clara Johnson, on 20 Aug 1919 in St Savours, Paddington. (Henry Bertram Bateman was born on 3 Nov 1878 in Torpoint(?), Cornwall and died on 7 Oct 1935 in Sevenoaks, Kent.)
