Alfred Charles Syer
- Marriage (1): Edith Becher Carter
Notes:
Also deaths Feb 22 1888 Aubrey Cecil Becher Syer- second son of A C Syer age 3.
Births 7 June 1892 at 26 Telford..... of a son, the wife on Alfred C Syer
Census for 1891 (Telford Ave) Alfred Law Student age 29, Edith 23 and the children Russell 4, Gladys (1 year) and Doris 10 months.
Census 1901 is definitely the school in Worthing as both Gladys now age 11 and Doris now age 10 are both there.
No wonder Edith died young - she had had at least six children the first son born before 1888, the second son Aubrey who died, the three children on the census and the boy who was born three weeks before she died in 1892. And she was only 24 when she died! They had servants and in 1891 the cook was 22, the housemaid 19, the nurse 26 and the undernurse 13! Poor old Edith was only a year older than the cook!
In the wedding announcement of Gladys and Cyril, Gladys' father is described as late so the Syer children lost both parents at a young age.
In the Ann George-Powell papers there is a death cert (copy) for Adelaide Crawley 11 Nov 1946, 80 years old. She died at Thw Old Cottage, Swindon (where the Griffiths and Locke's lived) and is widow of George Burridge Crawley (Col Indian Army). Information was G.B.Locke, also of the Old Cottage. This is the lady normally referred to as 'Crawfie'. On thepeerage.com she is listed as dau of Charles Bell Syer; but not quite sure how he fits in here. Col Crawley has descended from Sir Thomas Crawley-Boevey, 2 Bt. (hence thepeerage entry).
Alfred married Edith Becher Carter, daughter of Robert Brudenell Carter and Unknown. (Edith Becher Carter was born in 1867 and died on 25 Jun 1892 in 26 Telford Ave, Streatham Hill, London.)
