Sarah Hedding 1795-1874,stone casket on extreme right of large tomb of her parents Levitt & Elizabeth at St James', Little Paxton.
Later research from her will dated 1871 shows her ancestors exchanged The Manor of Offord, in the Shire of Huntingdon for the Manor of Little Paxton in the year of our Lord 1326 and held that last mentioned Manor for 486 years. It was her brother William Levitt Hedding who actually sold it in June 1823 against the wishes of his ancestor William who stated in his will 1644 that it was never to be mortgaged or sold. It became the fishing lodge for Paxton Place until it was all subdivided and the Manor was demolished being replaced by a fine mansion. The sale brochure gives a description of what the Manor was like. Six airy bed Chambers, two servants' ditto, capital dining Room, with sideboard Recess, noble drawing Room, pleasant Library, spacious Kitchen, convenient Scullery, ample Cellarage, store Room and Closets, with entrance Hall and private Passage: detached is a capital Stable for 4 horses, single Coach-house, a substantial Malting capable of malting from 20 to 30 qrs. per week, coal Yard, coal House, roomy Yard with a Pump of excellent Water; also a close of excellent pasture Land adjoining, containing 4 A. 1 R.
