"Henry and Samuel Brunsell were sons of Oliver Brunsell, a man of apparently humble origins who matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford, in 1597-8, aged 15. Oliver became vicar of Wroughton, in Wiltshire, in 1612, and remained so until his death in June 1641. He married Elizabeth, daughter to Henry Martin, of nearby Aldbourne.3 A funeral sermon, preached by a neighbouring incumbent, Tobias Crisp, points firmly to a Puritan theology in its insistence on God's free grace as against the doctrine of works, criticising those bishops who had been lately nibbling away at this fundamental of reformed doctrine.4 Oliver's will left simple bequests of books of divinity to his children, and lamented that he could leave only 20s. to the poor of his parish, 'but I have little to bestow, for I never sought great things for myself'.

The Reliquary 1882 contains "Grant of Arms and Crest to Henry Brunsell LLD 1660" ; "In Ashmole MS 858 fo 155 is copy of grant by Sir Edward Walker, Knt Garter to Henry Brunsell LL.D., Rector of Claworth, Co. Notts and Prebendary of Ely and Southwell, and to Samuel Brunsell D.D., both sons of Oliver Brunsell, of Wroughton, co.Wilts, clerk, by Elizabeth his wife, dau of Henry Martin of Upham Esq. of these arms and crest ..... "

His will here http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6MYDHQAACAAJ&dq=%22oliver+brunsell%22&lr= is dated 1642, so presumably he died around then.

Oliver# married Elizabeth# Martin/Martyn, daughter of Henry# Martin/Martyn and Jane# Walrond.
