From Henry's biog; lived near Nottingham, had no children of his own, but was married to a widow with one dau.
Henry Bateman biog "before I was 5 years of age my mother took me on a visit to my uncle William Butt Jordan .... he was sufficiently pleased with me to desire that I should remain with his good wife and himself - their dau. being absent visiting some maternal relatives in Oxon - I think my mother complied with their request and I was left remaining there for about 5 years with the exception of a single visit home with my uncle .... on this occasion my uncle returned without me and I stayed at home for a few weeks".

His wife died from typhoid (which he also got but recovered from) and this led to Henry returning to his parents in Burton when he was about 9.
