1881 Census (age 20) living at 28 The Beach, Walmer, Kent with parents and 2 servants. Occupation; Undergraduate St Edmund Hall, Oxford.

1891 Census (age 30) living at 13 The Stables, Honor Oak Road, Sydenham, Lewisham as head of family with widowed mother, 2 boarders (1 a tutor, 1 a scholar) and 3 servants. Occupation; Schoolmaster, Clerk in Holy Orders, Clergy.

1901 Census (age 40) is Schoolmaster at Honor Oak School, St Augustine Parish, Sydenham, Lewisham, London. Unmarried. As he appears to be the only teacher in residence and is 'Employer' presumably he is the Headmaster. NB; His nephews William Bird and John Colles are amongst the pupils .
