bullet  Notes:

Anne G-P notes have him as marrying Mary Stewart Wortley (father or uncle was 2nd Montague of Beaulieu) but this seems to be wishful thinking!

Originally from Anne G-P research.

Found bapt entry in St Modwen, BuT, Parish Register;"5th Nov 1796, William, son of Thomas and Jane Bateman".

London Gazette 24th Jan 1851; announcement of dissolution of the partnership between William Bateman, Henry Bateman and Richard Gray be Vauche, of 38 Milk Street, Cheapside, carrying on busines in name of Wm & Henry Bateman & Co, merchants for sale of Bickes Patent Chemical Fertilising Powder ! Originally pursing this when searching for Henry Bateman (Dr Henry Batemans son from first marriage), but he only ~10 in '51, however this William Bateman could be 'our' chap. Not sure who the Henry is, unless it's William's son Harry.

1851 Census (age 54?) living at 30 Cumming(?) Street, Pentonville, Clerkenwell, London with wife, 2 daughters and 3 servants. Occupation; General Merchant.

1861 Census (64) living at 29 Hamilton Ter (?), St.John's Parish, St Marylebone, Middlesex with wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 granddaughters (Florence and Fanny Bird) and 6 servants. Occupation; Baltic Merchant (same as his two sons).

Wife widow by '71.

Above backed up by Henry Bateman biog which says "William became a merchant in London and died at 27 Hamilton Terrace 24 Jan 1868 leaving a large grown up family". Also says that one of Henry's brothers earlier had a commission in the Burton Volunteers and that his brother Henry "still possessed the sword worn by him", this was Thomas.

Bateman research has DoD as 22nd, slight difference. Also says 'Merchant of 27 Hamilton Terrace, St John's Wood, London' and PoD as St John's Wood.

William married Elizabeth Maria Beilby in Hull. (Elizabeth Maria Beilby was born on 22 Feb 1798 in Ceres, Fifeshire, Scotland and died on 11 Apr 1884 in 47 Marine Parade, Worthing.)
