Notes:
Originally from Anne G-P research. Then added;
1851 Census (age 53) living at 30 Cumming(?) Street, Pentonville, Clerkenwell, London with husband, 2 daughters and 3 servants.
1861 Census (62) living at 29 Hamilton Ter (?), St.John's Parish, St Marylebone, Middlesex with husband, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 granddaughters (see below) and 6 servants. Grandaughters are; 1.Florence M Bird 9 born in Bloomsbury, London 2.Fanny E Bird 3 born in Wibmington(?), Kent. Assumed these are Eliz daughters.
1871 Census; NB; In 71 daughter Elizabeth Bird is living at 27 Hamilton Terrace, 29 is occupied by Charles Oppenheim, Banker. Ooohh ... there IS a Maria E(lizabeth?) Bateman (age 73), Widow, born in Fife, living with a daughter Ellen A Bateman (born circa 1840) and 4 servants at 27 Hamilton Terrace, St John Parish, Marylebone, London. Ahhhh the William Bird entry (which is on the next sheet) has the house name (27 Hamilton Terrace) scribbled out. But William Bird also shown as head. VERY confusing. Anyway, it appears they are living in the same house, perhaps sub divided? Sudden appearance of 'Maria' also confusing ! Got the 'Ceres' from here, previously just said Fifeshire.
1881 Census (age 83) living with with widowed son (Arthur) and granddaughter (Gertrude) and a servant at 6 Bath Place, Broadwater, Surrey. Occupation;Annuitant. Appears to be lodging house, but she is listed as 'Head' within her sub-section.Back to being Elizabeth again!
DandP of D from Bateman family tree.
Times Death Notice; On 11th inst(April 1884) at 47 Marine Parade, Worthing, Elizabeth Maria, widow of late William Bateman of 27 Hamilton Terrace, St John's Wood and Old Broad Street in her 87th year.
Is she related to the Beilby's that her sister in law Ann Bateman married into? Seems too much of a coincidence otherwise ?
Elizabeth married William Bateman, son of Thomas# Bateman and Jane# Jordan, in Hull. (William Bateman was born on 16 Oct 1796, christened on 5 Nov 1796 in Burton On Trent and died on 24 Jan 1868 in 27 Hamilton Terrace, St John's Wood, London.)
