Birth cert (from John Byrom); 9th Jan 1864, Tideswell, Richard Kew (Railway Labourer), Sarah Margaret Kew (formerly Walton). Information; X the mark of Sarah Margaret Kew.
1871 Census. Is virtually unreadable. Summary of interepreting a) the actual form b) what ancestry thinks form says and c) what we already know; (age 7) living in house of widowed grandfather with mother, sister and aunt.
1881 Census (age 17) living at Town End, Tideswell. House appears to be split in two. In Williams part there is only William and his mother Sarah (36). Other section is occupied by Harrison's who are Grocers. But his sister Mary Jane (13) is living in other section. Not sure of relation to Harrison's, perhaps Mrs.Harrison is Sarah's sister? Occupation; Grocers Assistant (presumably to the Harrisons).
