Dated the 2d day of March 1848.

On wedding cert he is 'of age', bachelor. Residence at time of marriage is Welshpool, occupation; accountant. Witnesses were Thos Withers (her brother) and Eliza Withers (this could either be a previously unknown sister or, more likely, Thomas' wife).

In 1848 he is mentioned in connection with the mourning of the Earl of Powis.

1851 Welsh Census; living, aged 41, at Elm Cottage, Gungrog Fawr, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire with wife and 2 house servants. Occupation; Clerk in Land Agents Office.

1861 Welsh Census; living, aged 51, at Dairy Square, Trallwmgollen and Tyddyn Pridd , Montgomeryshire with wife and 1 general servant. Occupation; Land Steward.

September 1864 was witness at wedding of Thomas Grant and Mary Ann Dax in Welshpool. Also, see following newspaper advert, it appears she was living with them;

Wrexham Advertiser; Sat 24 Sept 1865; On the 20th, at St. Mary's Church, Welshpool, by the Rev. J. E. Hill, Mr Thos. Grant, Pocklington, Yorkshire, to Miss Mary Anne Dax, Powis Castle Park, Welshpool
That sounds like she was living with her aunt and uncle (Thomas Walford) at the time she got married (he was agent/clerk at Powis Castle), rather than parents (who had already moved to Shrops). Which might explain why first born was 'Edith Mary Walford Grant' ; of course we knew where the Walford came from, but it sounds like she was even closer to them.

A Thomas Walford died 1869 in Montgomeryshire.

Wrexham Advertiser 1869; " Walford— On the 15th inst., aged 59 years, Mr Thos. Walford, clerk at Powis Castle Office for nearly forty years., Earl of Powis, Mont- gomeryshire. "

Possibly he worked (agent?) for the Mostyn-Owen family of Woodhouse, Shrops as a few items of around the correct period refering to a Thomas Walford, holding money for them etc.

Thomas married Anne Withers, daughter of Richard# Withers and Mary# Askin, on 30 Sep 1845 in The Parish Church, Berriew, Montgomery. (Anne Withers was born in 1812 in Berriew, Montgomeryshire.)
