1851 Census; Living age 6, at Oakley Cottage, Shrewsbury St Julian, Shrewsbury, Shrops with mother and brother, Mary Ann Dax and 2 servants.
Father is in Trwstywelin. Listing looked like Richard William.

1861 English Census, living, aged 16, at Ashley House, Holy Cross Parish, Shrewsbury with parents, 6 siblings and 3 servants. Occupation ; Medical Student. Listing looked like Walter Owen.

London Gazette 20th August 1869; Commissions Signed by the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Salop; 1st Administrative Brigade of Shropshire Artillery Volunteers; Richard Walter Owen Withers to be Surgeon. Dated 16th Aug 1869.

1871 English Census; Is living, aged 26, unmarried as 'Head' (!) at Shropshire Infirmary, St Mary's Parish, Shrops. (NB this near ATCHAM where everyone seems to end up!). Occupation is 'House Surgeon, MRCS, SRxx). Dozens of medical students, nurses etc. also there.

1881 English Census; widower, living, as head, aged 42(? presum I wrote this down wrong!), at 6 Swan Hill, Shrewsbury St Chad, Shrewsbury with son, sister Ann and 4 domestic servants (Cook, Housemaid, Nurse and Groom). Occupation; General Practitioner.

London Gazette 24 Jan 1890; Notice is given that the partnership between Richard Walter Owen Withers and James Allen Bratton, practising as surgeons, at Shrewsbury in the style of Withers and Bratton has been dissolved by mutual consent as from 31 Dec 1889.

1890 The Lancet; Dr. Withers of Shrewsbury states that the Salop Infirmary receives cases of cancer from all parts of Shropshire and of Central Wales; he "believes that the ....."

1891 English Census; living, aged 47, with second wife and 4 servants (Cook, Housemaid, Parlourmaid, Coachman) at 6 Swan Hill, Shrewsbury St Chad, Shrewsbury. Occupation; General Medical Practioner.

Richard married Martha Whitehouse q1 1873 in West Bromwich, West Midlands. (Martha Whitehouse died Q2 1874 in Atcham, Shropshire.)


Richard next married Susannah Hawkins Q2 1885 in Atcham, Shropshire. (Susannah Hawkins was born in 1844 in Warfield, Shropshire and died in 1921 in Bulith, Brecon.)
