Notes:
Wm Snr is the last Wright I'm 100% sure of. 'Above' here is a little speculative, and some of his earlier details - ie. chr and parents are guesses.
Found his burial in Northants CRO; Irthlingborough PR's; William Wright of Irthlingborough buried 10th April 1816 aged 62. This gives rough YoB. BUT; In the 'New Monthly Magazine' May 1816 it says; 'At Irthlingborough, Mr Wm Wright 69'. So that gives a different YoB than I had before and that led to me finding the possible chr and therefore parents shown here. However there are other Chr on FreeReg thus; 13 Mar 1744/45 William Wright, Wellingborough - father SAMUEL 16 Jun 1745 William Wright, Daventry - father HENRY, mother IZABIL
Found in Northants CRO: Interestingly there is a Mary Wright of PATTISHALL buried in IRTHLINGBOROUGH aged 95 on 7th April 1833. Could well be his mother, although would only be 16 when he was born, maybe an aunt ?
The info that he was father of Wm jnr comes originally from an Irthlingborough parish records lookup by Ann-Marie Ell. She couldn't find any other children of Wm and Ann (or Mary) or any birth records for William - in Irthlingborough that is. I can't find any on the IGI. So presumably he was born elsewhere, so not sure how we're going to get any further back. However in the 1777 (would be in his early 30's) Northants Militia list (supplied by Susan Tall) there is a Wm Wright, farmer, of the Higham Ferrers hundred, specifically Chelveston cum Caldecott. It is VERY possible this is him as the Sumpter's are from HF and it's no distance from Irthlingborough and Stanwick. Chelveston cum Caldecott is about 2 miles due east of HF. However, for example, there is also another Wm Wright, farmer in the Corby Hundred, specifically Weston.
Found marriage in Northants CRO; Both were OTP. Batchelor and spinster. Signed, not mark of. Witnesses were; John Wallis, Elizabeth Sumpter and Freeman Sumpter.
Numerous documents (leases etc) in Northants CRO circa 1802 pertaining to his being joint executor of the estate of Charles Richards (at one point I wrote Thomas but that might have been the son so ignore for now) of Rushden and sometimes says he is of Wilby, Northants. He is either a tanner or joiner (think tanner) and has a son called Thomas WRIGHT Richards. Also one of the other executors (3 in total) is a William Wright of Wymmington, Beds. - definately a different person as they are listed together. Could be a relative, or just a coincidence. Either way Richards left property in Rushen, Wilby and Higham Ferrers and the administration of the estate took so long that not only did Wm Wright snr outlive the other two executors, but Wm Wright jnr had to take over the duties after his father had died, there is a document solely pertaining to that. Richards will dated 1797. Some notes about Thomas Wright Richard's at the bottom of the page ; in case turn out to be related.
Northampton Mercury; Sat 20 Apr 1816; Died; On Saturday last, sincerely regretted by all his friends and acquitances, Mr Wm Wright, of Irthlingborough, in this county, farmer, aged 69 years.
Northants & Rutland Probate Index; Name William WRIGHT Year 1816 Status or Occupation elder, farmer Place Irthlingborough County NTH Ref N Type W Series - Book or Box - No 01 Sep Fo or pg - Microform - Notes - ID PRO#2/012327. Guessed this is roughly his death date. Cut-down version of his will; Wm Wright the elder of Irthlingborough, farmer, give and devise unto my dear wife Mary Wright" (his second wife nee Scott, not Wm Jnr's mother) "one annuity or yearly charge of £50 pa for and during her natural life to be paid by my Executor, the first payment to be made in 12 months after my decease, secondly I devise to my ONLY son Wm Wright my freehold and copyhold estate or estates and houses or herditatments which I now possess situate at Irthlingborough or elsewhere .... I also bequeath to my said son Wm Wright all my personal estate and effects, ready money or securities for money and stock crops of corn and hay growing or in those implements of husbandry, household goods, linen, plate china and effects whatsoever and wheresoever to hold unto my son Wm Wright his executors or administrators subject to the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses and subject to the payment of the annuity of £50 pa as above mentioned to my wife. Lastly I do hereby make nominate constitute and appoint my said son Wm Wright sole executor." Dated 15th March 1816. He did sign it, but it's rather shaky, he obviously wasn't particularly literate but HAD got beyond the 'mark of' phase ! Can't read the first witnesses name, second is John Woodward, third is George Scroxton. George FREEMAN Scroxton's headstone was next to St John Outlaw's - propped up around the back of Irthlingborough church. Sproxton died 1837, aged 57. Then there's a scribbled note which becomes less and less legible as it continues which starts "On the first day of September 1816 Wm Wright the sole executor named in the written will was ......." I presume it means the will was proved etc. Then there's an 'of the period' filing note, which confirms will proved 1st Sept 1816 and says value 'sub £1000', but I think this is just the value of the personal effects.
Ann G-P always claimed that we were descended from (or at any rate 'related to') the Gunpowder Plot conspirators John 'Jack' Wright and/or Christopher 'Kit' Wright - who were brothers from Holderness, Yorks. This seems unlikely and Gunpowder Plot descendants websites don't show any links to our William, but something to bear in mind perhaps. Certainly we could still be related to them, but looking unlikely that we are directly descended from them. There are lots of William Wright's who ARE related though, especially as Kit and Jack's brother was called William.
-- Thomas WRIGHT Richards (and his father Charles); Charles Richards is listed as Tanners Apprentice on the Rushden Milita list of 1777. 1815 someone of this name at Barford Lodge near Kettering Northamptonshire gent. Later Thomas Wright Richards is ALSO at Barford Lodge.
