Edward# Sumpter

  Notes:

There was on www.freereg.org.uk a John Sumpter bapt 31 Jan 1723/24 in Higham Ferrers. Parents Edward and Juliana. This backed up by finding Ann (we already knew they were siblings) so definately the correct people - result.

Found the marriage on the IGI.

Lots of Sumpters in HF later on who are sons of a Thomas who could well be another child - but can't find him.

Appears in 'Copies of the polls taken at the several elections for members to represent Parliament' Edward Sumpter, Higham Ferrers. This means he was a Freeholder.

There seems to be a Sumpter sculptor in Irthlingborough !?!!? "SUMPTER,-, of Irthlingborough fl. 1784-1792 According to the ... Sumpter signs a stone tablet with a basket of fruit at the top to Thomas Wylde, 1792, ..." This might be a red-herring, doesn't help when you can't see all the text! Anyway there's no Sumpter in the 3 antique/art books have!
This implies same (father AND son), although perhaps they are more memorial stonemasons than sculpters, which ties in with John being a 'mason';
From ‘Bedfordshire Magazine’ 1981 ; ‘John Sumpter of Higham Ferrers, son of the Edward who worked at both Hinwick and Colworth between 1710 and 1720, ... John later moved to nearby Irthlingborough and did work at Finedon 1784-99 and Yielden (for a memorial to Thomas Wylde formerly of Higham Ferrers) in 1792

From same place; Higham Ferrers burials lists a Richard Sumpter, 17 Jun 1744. Possibly this could be his father / brother / uncle ?

Edward# married Juliana# Freeman on 12 Jun 1723 in St Martin's, Stamford Baron, Northampton. (Juliana# Freeman died in 1776 in Higham Ferrers, Northants and was buried on 14 Jun 1776 in Higham Ferrers, Northants.)
