Notes:
Found his bapt at http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=1757079 this says year could be 1723 OR 1724 (presumably 1724 as parents married in 1723!). Also shows sister Ann with same parents, so sure it's correct.
Found marriage on the IGI. Later also found it in the CRO. He IS OTP. She is of the parish of ... looks like it might be Irthlingborough, but not 100% sure.
Victualler and Stone Mason. No mention of him being a farmer (his son Thomas was a Yeoman, but Thomas' son Stephen was a victualler, albeit one with land which appears to have perhaps been farmed by Wm Wright).
From 'Bedfordshire Magazine' 1981 ; 'John Sumpter of Higham Ferrers, son of the Edward who worked at both Hinwick and Colworth between 1710 and 1720, ... John later moved to nearby Irthlingborough and did work at Finedon 1784-99 and Yielden (for a memorial to Thomas Wylde formerly of Higham Ferrers) in 1792
Northants Militia List; Northampton 1777; 3 options, but non sound like him ; this is because he was over 45, so over age.
Created the obelisk at the junction of the Thrapston Road and Irthlingborough Road, which is now listed "Obelisk, c.1789. Erected for Sir English Dolbn by Sumpter of Irthlingborough. Squared coursed limestone. Short obelisk on square plinth with plain cornice. Plain limestone tablet to ach face. Probably erected as a direction pillar and to record the return to sanity of George III. (Finedon Otherwse Thingdon by J.H.L. Bailey, p.44)."
