Parliamentary Papers By Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons "At Dundee, the thirteenth of December 1866 ... feu contract between James Christie, of Dundee, banker, and others, trustees under trust disposition by James Crichton, formerly of London, then of Dundee, merchant, in contemplation of his marriage with Elizabeth Maria Bateman, then of Hamilton Terrace, St.John's Wood in the Co of Middlesex, spinster, now his wife, with their consent, on the one part, and James Shaw and David Wm Baxter, both manufacturers in Dundee, trustees for Shaw, Baxter & Co., manufacturers in Dundee, on the other part". It then mentions land in Coupar's Park, Blackness.
Also found; (The Banker's Magazine 1861); The Estate of Mr James Crichton ; A meeting of the creditors of Mr James Crichton, merchant, of Dundee, was held on the 6th May, when a balance sheet was presented by Mr.C.F. Kemp, the accountant, showing liabilities expected to come upon the estate £25,515 with assets estimated to realize £8,520 net. After a long discussion is was resolved to adjourn, for the purposes of enabling Mr Crichton to make an offer..." A dividend of 3s in the £ under Crichton's estate, and 8s 6d in the £ on his joint ventures with other parties.
He (or looks like him) also gets a mention in 'The Linen Trade, Ancient and Modern By Alexander Johnston Warden' (1867); ".... On the contrary his nephew, James Crichton, of London and Dundee...." the he is a Mr Anderson.
James married Elizabeth Maria Bateman, daughter of William Bateman and Elizabeth Maria Beilby, on 18 Nov 1856 in St Marylebone, London. (Elizabeth Maria Bateman was born on 12 Oct 1832 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex and died on 11 Apr 1884.)
