1881 Scottish Census; Living as son (aged 19) at Monifieth, Angus with parents, 3 siblings and 2 servants. PoB; Dundee. Occupation; Clerk. Might be same person as 'George' on '71 census.
1891 Scottish Census; A James Critchon (30) 'Tea Traveller' born in Forfar, living with wife Minnie and dau Ella S (2). Might be him.
1901 can't find in Scotland. In England there are a number of possibilities but just show PoB as 'Scotland'. Most likely is at Raeburn St., Willesden, Middx; James Crichton, Head, M, 36, Oil Merchant, Employer, Scotland Margaret do , Wife, M, 29, Scotland Arthur J, Son, 4 London Douglas, Son, 10 months London Walter R Johnston, brother in law, 33?, Clerk Commercial, Scotland and 2 servants.

From Wendy; James Beilby Crichton of Cupar, Farmer and landowner died 14 April 1938 left £421,641. On death of his wife passes 2/10 to Salvation Army Dundee, 4/10 Dundee Royal infirmary, 4/10 to Episcopal Orphanage. ( found reference to his wife's death at Luthrie Bank May 1942 in the Glasgow Herald but no actual entry) and Obituary Glasgow Herald April 16 1938; James Beilby Crichton J P Native of Dundee educated at High School. Entered office of his father merchant of Dundee, manufacturer of jute and flax. Gained experience working in mills for hours every morning before office duties. Received appointment in Calcutta 1894 and returned 1910. Purchased Luthrie Bank, acquired estate of Craigruie in Perthshire. Enjoyed fishing shooting deer-stalking....for a time trustee of Cupar SavingsBank. Director and Chairman of Tayside Floorcloth Co. Newburgh. President of Fife Agricultural Society. President of North Fife Foal Show. Introduced the Percheron to compete with Clydesdale. Known as generous benefactor and since 1927 gifted more than £20,000 to Adamson Cottage Hospital. Awarded Freedom of the burgh of Cupar in 1936.
