Notes:
Think he is prbly Edward WILLIAM Hitchins born Q1 1885, Surrey.
1891 Census; Living as son (age 7) at 28 Lancaster Road, Croydon with parents, 3xsisters and 3 servants. PoB South Norwood. Middle initial not clear, perhaps N.
1901; Quick look, can't find.
From Thomasina J: "Edward Norman Fortescue Hitchins (b. 1884 d. 1959) Youngest child of Tom Fortescue Hitchins and Mary Augusta Syms. Received a Commission in the Duke of Wellington Regiment, subsequently transferred to the Royal Signals. Was mentioned in dispatches several times during World War I. Fought at Vimy Ridge when his first daughter Mary (my Grandma) was born and originally planned to call her Vimy but was 'talked out of it'. Some time in the 1930s he was badly injured by a rearing horse and had a severe limp after that. Before the war he made trips to Ireland to buy hunters, trained and sold them. He wrote an article on his experiences during WWI called 'From Mons to Aisne'. (I have this on file somewhere..) His wife was Frances Dorthy Warde (related to the Warde's of Squerryes Court)."
Edward married.
