Walter Charles Griffiths
- Born: 1853, Brixton, Surrey
- Marriage (1): Lucy Hammond Phillips on 25 Jan 1876 in St.John's Church, Brixton, London
Notes:
Originally had christian name as 'Walker' but is, presumably, Walter. Also originally had second name as 'C', only got Charles from 1881 census - which can't be 100% sure is him, but looks correct.
1947 Letter Cyril Griffiths - Ann G-P "Walter, I fancy, was in the Civil Service. I remember being down at Ramsgate staying with Alice Long as a small boy when Walter Griffiths and his xxx? sons were there. I never met his wife. The eldest of the two sons, Lewis, was a little older than I. I forget the name of the younger boy, he was very delicate I believe" .... goes on to describe how the youngest would memorise train timetables and could tell you how to get to any place in the British Isles .... "really an astonishing kid".
1861 Census (NB: Indexed on ancestry.co.uk as Griffith). Age 8. Living at 1 Frederick Place, Lambeth, Brixton with father, mother and 1/2 siblings.
1871 Census Age 18. Living at 1 Frederick Place, Lambeth, Brixton with mother, aunt and 1/2 siblings.

1881 Census; Age 28; Is presumably the Walter Charles Griffiths living at Wetherby Terrace, Kensington with wife and servant. Occupation 'Private'. Gives PoB as just 'Surrey.
1891 Census; Age 38, living with wife and 2 sons and a servant at Aldrington, Surrey. Occupation; 'Living on his own means'. Gives PoB as Lambeth, Surrey.
1901 Census; few possibles, but no certain match. Ditto wife and children. Might be worth trying again another time.
Walter married Lucy Hammond Phillips on 25 Jan 1876 in St.John's Church, Brixton, London. (Lucy Hammond Phillips was born in 1850 in Surrey and died Q4 1893 in Steyning, Sussex.)
