Not sure when/why he changed his name! But is definately the same person as in both marriage announcements he is described as the son of Mr & Mrs Aubrey Bateman, of 16 The Royal Crescent, Bath.
1921 Census; Living as umarried grandson (aged 20y11m) at Hillside, Smoke Lane, Reigate with grandmother, 2x aunts and uncle and 2 servants. Occupation; Circuit(?) Manager, Anglo-Amercian Co, 36 Queen's Gate London.
From Wendy H; Aubrey Roland suddenly becomes Mr A R Hanbury-Bateman (not to be confused with the Bateman-Hanburys!) when his engagement is announced in 1935. He was due to marry his fiancee on March 19 1936 but announcement in Times on February 29 that it was off. He then becomes engaged in December 1940 (by now he is Captain Hanbury-Bateman) to Cynthia Alice Radcliffe, elder daughter of Lt-Col and Mrs William Radcliffe of Esseborne Manor, Hurstbourne Tarrant, Near Andover. Marriage took place in Jauary 1941 at St Peter's Hurstbourne Tarrant. At least one child: William Hanbury-Bateman who married Fraulein Elisabeth Loverek of Salsburg May 11 1975.
From London Gazette. 1934; Was joint-executor of his brother Eustace's estate. 1st May 1936; Partnership between Frederick Jasper Henson and Aubrey Roland Hanbury-Bateman, carrying on business as Auctioneers, House and Estate Agents at No 5, Mount St, Grosvenor Sq, London W1, under the style of Curtis & Henson to be dissolved. An A.R.Hanbury-Bateman was Chairman of Hunt & Steward Service Company Unlimited which was voluntarily wound up on 12 Dec 1966.
From Wendy H; Death notice in Times; On June 21 1982 in his 82 year at Longparish Lt.Colonel Aubrey Roland HANBURY-BATEMAN husband of late Cynthia. This presumably means that the Dorothy Gwendoline I H-B who died in the Bath district in Jun 1997, aged 92, born 11 Jul 1904, was NOT his second wife, as not mentioned?
Aubrey married Cynthia Alice Radcliffe, daughter of Lt-Col. William Radcliffe and Unknown, in Jan 1941 in St.Peter's, Hurstbourne Tarrant, Hants. (Cynthia Alice Radcliffe died before 1982.)
