1851 Census; there is a Rose Ellis (age 6) born City of London, living in house of father (Michael Ellis, 34, watchmaker) in London Wall. However Harriet (see below) is not there so either not right Rose, or Harriet away, or Harriet is cousin or somesuch.

1861 Census (age 15) visitor at house of Harriet Elliott in Paddington. Also a Harriet Ellis (18) presumably her sister.

1871 Census (age 25) living at Hadley House, Hadley, Middx with husband, son, 2 daughters, sister (Emily Ellis, 15) and 4 servants. Got maiden name from unmarried sister, and later found marriage.

1881 Census (age 35) living at Hadley Green, Monken Hadley, Middlesex with husband, 11 children and 5 servants.

1891 Census (age 45) living in St Matthew's Parish, Reigate, Surrey. House called Hill Leigh(?), H<something> Bridge Road with husband, 8 children and 3 servants.

1901 Census (age 55) living as 'Head' (but within boarding house) at 25 Royal Parade, Eastbourne, Sussex with 2 daughters and son. Occupation; Own Means.

1911 Census (from Wendy) living (age 65, widow) as head at Hillcroft, Reigate with 4 children.

1921 Census; Living as widowed head (aged 75y11m) at Hillside, Smoke Lane, Reigate with 2 x dau, son, grandson and 2 x servants. Occupying 13 rooms.

Ernest wedding is described as 'late' and of 'Hillcroft, Reigate".

Rose married Horatio Bateman, son of William Bateman and Elizabeth Maria Beilby, on 3 Jul 1866 in Marylebone, London. (Horatio Bateman was born on 6 Mar 1836 in Middlesex and died on 19 May 1899.)
