Edward Salter Dax
- Born: 14 Oct 1839, Berriew, Montgomeryshire
Notes:
Sent for his birth cert. (hence having precise DoB) to confirm that mother's maiden name was Withers - and it is.
1841 Welsh Census; living, (as 'E.S.') aged 1, at The Malthouse, Aberhafesp Berriew, Montgomeryshire with parents. NB; next door is Mary Withers and an M.A.Dax (age 5/6/8) which I'm assuming is OUR Mary Ann.
1851 English Census; age 11, living at Madeley, Wenlock, Shrops with parents and 2 siblings (Mary Ann who would be about 14, NOT there). PoB is ditto from mother. Occupation; Scholar.
1861 English Census; presume he is the Edward S. Dax (indexed as Cox) age 21, living as lodger at Wolverhampton St., Castle Church, Staffs. Occupation ; Grocers Assistant. PoB could be Berriew, certainly Mongomeryshire.
An Edwin Thomas Dax died Q3 1864 in Newport Sh (Shrops?)
(Familysearch) in the 1910 US Census there is an Edward S Dax, 68yo, born in England, emigrated in 1862, married to Joanna A with two married children Mary B Parmlee (32) and Catherine A Connor (58). His residence is Manhattan Ward 21, New York, New York .
