Rev. George Beilby M.A.

  • Born: 1842, Birmingham
  • Marriage: Louisa

  Notes:

1851 Census (incorrectly indexed as Bailly on ancestry); v hard to read; living aged 9 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, with parents, 3 siblings and 2 servants. Presuming he is product of second marriage due to age.

1861 Census (v hard to read) unmarried, living, aged 19, with widower father at Beauford(?) Road, Edgbaston with 2 siblings and a servant. Occupation; Student.

1871 Census; living, aged 29, with wife, child and 2 servants at 441 Coventry Road, Deritend, Aston, Warwicks (Birmingham). Occupation; Curate of St Trinity Bordesley(?). Annoyingly he is clearly BEILBY here.

1882 officiated at the wedding of his cousin Agnes Louisa Bateman to Christopher St John Wright. Also assisted at wedding of cousin Ina Gertrude Bateman to William Salmon (same yr).
And in 1890 he conducted wedding of Bernard Montague Bateman.

Here; http://www.streetandwalton.co.uk/church/inscriptions.php says he became vicar of Street in 1886, but that doesn't tie in with 1881 census. The next vicar was appointed in 1895, which DOES tie in.

Also;http://www.streetcricketclub.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=4&Itemid=36 ; "Indeed, the Rev. George Beilby was a stalwart player and captain of Street C.C. around the turn of the century. "

1881 Census; (incorrectly indexed as Bulby on ancestry) living, aged 39, at The Parsonage, Street, Somerset with (half) sister Isabella, 2 dau, 1 son and 2 servants. Is still married, but wife not there on census night. Occupation; Curate of Street. Still BEILBY.

1890; Officiated at the wedding of cousin Bernard M Bateman to Alice Hinkson.

1891 Census; living at High Street, Street, Somerset, aged 49, with 2 servants. Children and wife not there but is down as married - they're in Weston Super Mare (where wife is describing herself as living on own means rather than Rectors wife, hhhmmm). Occupation; Rector of Street. Back to BIELBY.

1901 Census; living, aged 59 at The Vicarage, Haselbury Plunckett, Somerset with wife, 2 dau, sister-in-law (Hannah Bennet, single, 68 born Birmingham) and 2 servants. Occupation ; Clergyman of C of England. Is BEILBY !

1911 Census; not pulled, prbly he is the George Beilby, 69, living in Bristol. There is a Louisa 70 also in Bristol, so fairly sure it's them.

The editors of 'Folks Songs of Somerset' thank the Rev G Beilby.

George married Louisa. (Louisa was born in 1841 in Birmingham.)
