1851 Census (age 15) living as boarder at Cromwell House School, High St., Hornsey, Middlesex. Shows as born in Middlesex. Brother Horatio in same school, so fairly sure it's him.

1861 Census aged (25) living at 29 Hamilton Ter (?), St.John's Parish, St Marylebone, Middlesex with parents, brother, sister, 2 nieces (Birds) and 6 servants. Occupation; Baltic Merchant (same as father and brother).

In the Era Aug 16 1863; BATEMAN MANYARD Arthur 2nd son of William Bateman...........to Alice Consett 2nd daughter of Bengal Army and Emberton Bucks. No cards

1871 Census (aged 35) living at 4 Randolph Gardens, St Mary Paddington, London with wife, 2 daughters and 3 servants. Occupation; Foreign Commission Merchant(?)

1881 Census (age 41?!) widower living at house of widowed mother with his daughter (Gertrude - Edith at boarding school) and a servant at 6 Bath Place, Broadwater, Surrey. Occupation;Commission Merchant.

London Gazette, 6 Jan 1885 "Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, Arthur Bateman and Horatio Bateman, under the firm W.Bateman and Sons of No 10 Clements-lane, in the City of London, Merchants, has been dissolved by mutual consent, as and from the 31st day of December, 1884 and that the business will be continued by the said Horatio Bateman alone. All debts due to and owing to the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Horatio Bateman. Dated this 1st day of January 1885. Arthur Bateman and H.Bateman"

1901 Census (age 65) widower living as boarder at house of Elizabeth Pinkerton in Ebury(?) Street, St George Hanover Sq, Knightsbridge, London. Occupation; Retired Commission Agent. Gives PoB here as Islington not Pentonville.
