In Aubrey's marriage announcement he was referred to as elder son, hence finding this one.
Lionel Hanbury Bateman was a passenger boarding at Capetown and arriving Southampton 1924 on board SS Medic. Aged 23, student and home address is 16 Royal Crescent, Bath. Also appears years later in wedding announcement for daughter (middle name Rose). Referred to as late 20 and his widow must have married a Cowen.

Times; Coming from Mozambique to Uk age 34 in 1936 - address St James Place SW1 - no occupation.
London Gazette; In Aug 1941 he (or someone with same name) was commissioned into the RAF as a Flying Officer.
1950; Came over from Kenya in 1950 aged 48 - occupation - planter, Address; Conservative Club, Newton Abbot, Devon - permanent residence Kenya.
