bullet  Notes:

At N Yorks CRO they only have Hawes parish weddings 1695 - 1837. Maybe it's Aysgarth after that?
Known as both Margaret and Peggy.
Have applied for Nanny's birth cert. which might give mothers maiden name - it does DINSDALE !!

To get parents need marriage details which appear to be; Q2 1842, Askrigg, Vol 24, Pg.Pg303. But this is free search and a Margaret, not a Peggy (is Peggy on Nanny's birth cert). Full search between 1837 and 1843 inc also only returned this record for a Peggy or Margaret Dinsdale, so that's the one we need. HOWEVER I suppose they could have got married before 1837. Marriage cert she is; Margaret Dinsdale of full age, spinster of Crackpot Gill, Parish of Grinton, father George Dinsdale, farmer. Witnesses were Richard Dinsdale and John Wade. But Crackpot, Grinton is in Swaledale, not Wensleydale, albeit only about 5 miles from Askrigg. The record obtained does match the 1841 cenus for her - ie there is a Margaret/Peggy Dinsdale age 25 with father called George who is a farmer but this person living at Gayle, not Grinton. Maybe she was living in Grinton, but not with her parents ? There IS a family of Dinsdales living in Grinton in 1841 census, BUT a) lead miners not farmers, b) no Margaret/Peggy, c) the George is only 20, head of family is Stephen, 56.

Also found her chr on familysearch; Father George, mother Barbara.

Possibly the same person;

This http://mygenerations.org/dinsdale/keiths%20notes.htm says;
"My Gayle, Hawes ancestors are;

--

--
John's son John, married, MARGARET Dinsdale daughter of GEORGE Dinsdale and Barbara Spencer and I think his parents were Owen Dinsdale and Margaret Burton.
Children; JOHN, b, 1843, NANNY, b, 1848,GEORGE, b, 1850...JEFF, b...?
--
John, b.1843 was my GG Grandfather and came to this part of Canada in 1857,
also with him were; Jeff Spencer Dinsdale. With Martha, John and Ann and daughter Elizabeth. Also living nearby at that time were the Lawrence Parker Dinsdale family who went to Iowa about 1860 and founded the town of Dinsdale, Iowa "
This definately sounds like same people BUT this person says John came to Canada in 1857, whereas we have him with parents in 1861 census !!

In 1841 census there were 3 possibles, but only one with father George;
Living as Peggy, aged 25, at Wynd, Gayle, Hawes with George (55, farmer), John (15) and Thomas something (actually looks like Dinsdale as well but isn't ditto from above) who is 60 and Collier (?!?!).

1851 census (age 37) living in Hawes with her husband and children. Occupation; Wool comber. Place of birth shown as Aysgarth.

1861 census (age 47) living at Gayle, Hawes with husband and children.

1871 Census (age 58) living as 'Head' as a widow at Gayle-East-End, Burtersett with daughter Nanny (age 23), grandson Jeffrey (age 9) and granddaughter Barbara (age 1). Occupation; Knitter of Hosiery.

1881 Census (age 68) living as 'Head' as a widow at Garrice, Hawes with daughter Nanny (33), grandson Jeffrey (18), and granddaughters Mary Margaret (shown as MM, aged 8) and Barbara (11). Occupation; Knitter of Guernsey Frocks (same as daughter).

Death cert (from John Byrom); 8th December 1885, Gayle near Hawes. Age 72. Widow of John Dinsdale, Ag Lab.
Cause of Death; Shock from fall 1 month (ago presumably) and Bronchitis 3 days (ago).
Informant; Jeffrey Dinsdale of Burtersett, Hawes, Grandson, present at the death.

Margaret married John# Dinsdale, son of John# Dinsdale and Nanny# Dixon, on 20 Apr 1842 in The Parish Chapel, Chapelry of Hawes, Yorks. (John# Dinsdale was born in 1811 in Hawes, Yorkshire, christened on 31 Dec 1811 in Hawes, N Yorks and died Q4 1864 in Askrigg District, Yorks..)
