John Dinsdale

  • Born: 1843, Gayle, Hawes, Yorkshire
  • Christened: 6 Jan 1843, Gayle, Hawes, N Yorks
  • Marriage (1): Sarah Ann?

bullet  Notes:

Found baptism in N Yorks CRO; 6 Jan 1843, John, son of John (Yeoman) and Peggy Dinsdale, of Gayle.

1851 census (age 8) living in Hawes with her parents and siblings. Place of birth shown as Aysgarth.

This http://mygenerations.org/dinsdale/keiths%20notes.htm says he went to Canada in 1857, but that doesn't match with the '61 census, so I think they've got the wrong John Dinsdale.

1861 census (age 17) living at Gayle, Hawes with parents and siblings. Occupation; Labourer.

1871 census; can't find. Unfortunately he's NOT the John Dinsdale of the same age living in Bridgehousegate, Pateley Bridge (where I live!) who gives his birthplace as Swale (which could be a misinterpretation of Gayle!) because that person still there in '81 and gives birthplace as Swaledale!

1881 census (age 36) possibly living at 191 Great (?) Jackson St (?), Hulme, Manchester with wife. no kids in house. Birthplace given as Buttersett. Occupation; possibly Baking House Keeper?

1891 Census (age 46) possibly living at Briercliffe with Extwistle, Burnley, Lancs with wife. House has 3 rooms occupied. Occupation; Labourer at (business, furnace?). Puts PoB as Buttersett.

1901 Census ; there is a John Dinsdale, born in Muker, of correct age, with a wife Sarah born in Bewerley, living in Glasshouses, Pateley Bridge, with 4 other younger Dinsdales, but unfortunately I can't open the actual census form at the moment ! (Oct 06). Otherwise no match.

John married Sarah Ann?. (Sarah Ann? was born in 1829 in Hornby, Yorkshire.)
