  • Marriage (1): Unknown
  • Died: 5 Oct 1902, Burtersett, Hawes, N Yorks aged 54

bullet  Notes:

Originally got parents from familysearch.org - under Christening records. Also backed up by appearing with Peggy on 71 and 81 census' .... and with both parents in '61 and '51 census, and by later getting her birth cert (to get her mothers maiden name).

N Yorks CRO; found baptism; 10th May 1848, Nanny, dau of John (Labourer) and Margaret Dinsdale, of Gayle. BUT really I need her birth cert to get mothers maiden name. It is Q2 1848, Askrigg, Vol 24, Pg. 429 - applied for 3rd Nov 2006 - gives mothers mdn name as Dinsdale !

1851 census (age 2) living in Hawes with her parents and siblings. Place of birth shown as Aysgarth.

1861 census (age 12) living at Gayle, Hawes with parents and siblings. NB: Shows as born in Gayle, not Hawes. Later years show Hawes, although 01 census says Scotland?!?!

1871 census (age 23) living at Gayle East End, Hawes in the house of her widowed mother (shown as Margaret). Gives status as Unmarried, but I think the grand children (Barbara and Jeffrey) are hers.Certainly Barbara is hers as shown in 91 census and on birth cert., but for Jeffrey to be hers she would have had to have given birth to him aged ~14. Occupation; Knitter of Hosiery.

1881 census (age 33) was living at Garrice, Hawes, in the house of her widowed mother (shown as Peggy). Gives status as unmarried. Occupation; Knitter of Guernsey Frocks

1891 census (age 44) was living (at Wesleyan Chapel, Buttersett, Gayle, Hawes) along with her daughters Barbara and Mary Margaret and a granddaughter, Jane Ann - all born in Hawes. Shown as 's'ingle. Occupation; Finisher of Machine Knit Hosiery

1901 census (age 53) was living as Boarder in house of William Johnson at Middlegate, Hawes, with Barbara, Mary and Jane Ann. Occupation; 'living on own means'. Oddly shows PoB here as Scotland?!?

Death cert (from John Byrom); 15th October 1902, Burtersett, Hawes. 53 years old, Hand Knitter (Woolen Yarn).
Cause of Death; Garcinoma
Informant; Barbara Dinsdale, dau of Burtersett, Hawes. Present at death.

There is a Nancy Dinsdale born in 1845 Hawes here;
http://www.tomkinshome.com/familyweb/aqwg76.htm
BUT I think this is the same Nanny (parents and YoB match) but some of his suppositions look incorrect - ie. John's parents.
