Jeffrey Dinsdale
- Born: 23 Apr 1861, Hawes, Yorkshire
- Marriage (1): Louisa Jones on 4 Nov 1886 in St.George's, Everton, Liverpool
Notes:
There is a Jeffery shown on familysearch as son of Jeffery and Jane Metcalfe. But this Jeffery born in 1861, at which time our Jeffery Snr (ie Nanny's brother) was only 8.
Am assuming for now he is Nanny's daughter - although she would only have been 13 when he was born. Certainly he is Peggy's grandson due to a) census and b) Peggy's death cert (where he is the informant).
Further information then came via John Byrom from someone on Genes Reunited. I had birth date as 23 Apr 1861, but can't remember where I got this from so have changed to Genes RU contact info.
1871 census (age 9) living at Gayle East End, Buttersett/Hawes in the house of grandmother Peggy, Nanny (possibly his mother) and Barbara.
1881 census (age 18) was living at Garrice, Hawes, in the house of his widowed grandmother (shown as Peggy Dinsdale), along with Nanny, Barbara and Mary M.
1885; Is he informant of grandmother Peggy Dinsdales death. Listed as Grandson of Burtersett, Hawes, present at the death.
1891 census; Can't find. There is a Jeffrey Dinsdale aged 29 living with his sister Margaret Widdup in Barnoldswick - both born in Hawes. But sister (widow with son) is shown as 41 (say born 1850 - almost same age as Nanny!), so surely would have appeared somewhere on at least the 1861 census. This Margaret would appear to be the daughter of a Matthew and Jane, and therefore not a (direct) relative of our Jeffery.
1901 census; There is a Jeffrey Dinsdale (age 39) born in Hawes who is living in Silsden with wife, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Occuaption; Boot and shoe repairer working on own account. HOWEVER this more likely to be the Jeffery we found and ruled out in '91.
Info from Genes Reunited Contact of John Byrom's; Jeffrey was born in Hawes 21.8.1862 and married a Louisa Jones on 4.11.1886 at St. Georges, Everton, Lancs. Jeffreys occupation was farmer then policeman. Louisa born 28.3.1861 Ludlow. Jeffrey and Louisa emigrated to Montana , USA and had following children Edward John born 1887, Jeffrey b 21.8.1892, Gertrude b 30.10.1894, Sarah Eva b 25,12.1896, Olive b 10.5.1899 and Albert b 11.4.1902. Some of the children said to have been buried under a tree at Red Lodge, Montana. Their descendants said to be members of the Mormon church. HOWEVER: John later says; Recently carried out some more research on the Dinsdale family and found an obituary for Jeffrey on the site Find a Grave, in which it gaves a date of birth as 23 April 1861 and not the 21 August 1862 as we have at present (although I note from your site that you originally had this date). Wanting to confirm if we have a link to family in Montana I sent for birth certificate for child born 23/4/1861. It shows father as Jeffrey Dinsdale deceased, mother Jane Metcalfe. Jeffrey's marriage to Lucy Jones in Everton confirms father. So the Montana Jeffrey is not the Jeffrey Dinsdale we have as being born to a very young Nanny. Think I will try sending for another certificate to confirm date of birth and parentage of our Jeffrey. The Montana Dinsdale does, I believe, link into our tree but relationship is not close (currently checking out other researchers work to confirm its accuracy).
Jeffrey married Louisa Jones on 4 Nov 1886 in St.George's, Everton, Liverpool. (Louisa Jones was born on 28 Mar 1861 in Ludlow, Shropshire and died in 1922.)
