1841 Census (age 10) in Upper Settle, Settle, Yorks with parents and siblings.

1851 Census living in Upper Settle (age 20) in house of parents. Occupation; Farm Labourer.

1857; Presumably he's the informant of his grandfather John Hardacre's death in Settle.

1861 Census (age 28?) living in Upper Settle with wife, 2 daughters and son. NB Eldest child is called Esther Wilkinson. Have assumed born out of wedlock (but have also assumed is John's - might not be). NB: Margaret's parents living next door. Occupation; Labourer at Lime Kilns.

Dec 1863 ; On Elizabeth's birth cert listed as Ag Lab.

1871 Census (age 42?) living in Poole's Row, Settle with wife and children. NB; On here Esther is listed as Moorby. Occupation; Labourer.

John Moorby, labourer, and Frederick Hicks, ostler, all of Settle, were summoned for trespassing in pursuit of game on land in the occupation of Mr. Joseph Parker, on Sunday the 6th inst. Leeds Mercury; Thu 17 Feb 1887; John Moorby was, along with others, fined for poaching at Settle..;, The charge against Moorby was dismissed.

1891 Census (age 60) living as widower at Cobb Castle, Settle with 2 daughters and grandson (Tommy Moorby). Occupation; Labourer Quarry.

1901 Census (age 71) living as widower at Cobb Castle, Settle with son-in-law (David Jackson) and daughter (Sarah - David's wife), 1 married grandaughter (Susannah Hardacre 20) and 5 grandsons; James Jackson 17, John Jackson 12, Alfred Jackson 8, Thomas Moorby 13 and William Moorby 7. Also one great granddaughter Frances Hardacre (16mon), who is Susannah's dau. Not sure how William Moorby fits in at the moment- so not entered.......later; he is Rose Anna's son. Occupation; Limestone Quarryman.

Death cert (from John Byrom); 23rd March 1904, Cob Castle, Settle. Age 73. Limestone Quarrier.
Cause of Death; Chronic Endocarditis (3 yrs), Chronic Arteris Sclerosis (3 yrs), Cardiac Failure (7 days).
