She also found ; Ipswich Journal Thurs Feb 9 1888 ; Death of an ex-Ipswich Surgeon Mr St John Outlaw Rands, assistant house surgeon at Northampton Infirmary died on Tuesday night of a fever. He had been unwell for some time past and at a recent meeting of governors a locum tenens was appointed. He was formerly assistant to Dr W A Elliston of Ipswich. His father is a leading Northampton Solicitor and deep sympathy is felt for family.

Northampton Mercury; Sat 11th Feb 1888. Death of an Infirmary Doctor. Large numbers of people may hear with great regret of the death of Mr St John Outlaw Rands, assistant house surgeon at the infirmary. Mr Rands has been somewhat unwell for about two months past, but nothing dangerous was anticipated until January 16th when his illness assumed a serious aspect, and shortly before 11 o'clock on Tuesday night he succumbed to a high fever. Only as recently as Saturday last, the Governors of the Infirmary, decided to appoint a locum tenens. Mr Rands who was a son of Mr Rands, solicitor, Newland, was at Guy's Hospital, and from there he went to act as assistant to Dr.Ellison of Ipswich, where he became very popular. A year last June, after he had been in the Suffolk town for two years, he obtained the appointment of assistant house-surgeon at the Infirmary in place of Mr Audland, who became house surgeon in succession to Mr Oswald Lane. The funeral is fixed for Saturday. His remains will be interred in the family vault in St Sepulchre's churchyard, and the cortege will start from the deceased's father's residence in Newland at three o'clock. The body was removed from the infirmary on Wednesday evening.

Northampton Mercury; Sat 18th Feb 1888; Funeral of Mr St John Outlaw Rands. The funeral of the late Mr Rands, whose untimely death we have previously noted, took place in St Sepulchre's churchyard on Saturday afternoon. The remains had been removed from the infirmary to the residence of the deceased's father earlier in the week, and were placed in a polished oak coffin with brass furniture, on which was the inscription 'St John Outlaw Rands, died February 7th, 1888, aged 28'. The procession left Mr Rands, Newland, at three o'clock, the coffin being covered with wreaths and crosses of choice flowers sent by the Honorary Medical Staff of the infirmary …. list of wreath givers inc. Miss Pell; Mr and Mrs C.St.John Wright; Mrs.H.A.Bryden; Mr and Mrs Lamb, Kensington; Mr and Mrs Phipps, Collingtree Grange; Mr and Mrs P Phipps, Blisworth…… the beir was borne by the following eight gentleman of the medical staff on the infirmary ………… The followers were Mr.G.Rands, Mr.G.W.Rands, Mr.C.Wright, Mr.Pickering Phipps jun (representing his father, who through indisposition was unable to be present), Mr J Barry, Dr.Jones, Dr Greene and Mr.G.H.Percival. …….<description of service> …… among the other mourners were the Misses Rands, Mrs.Pain, Mrs.Barry, Mrs.P.Phipps, Miss Pell, Mr.S.P.Bennett and Mr and Miss Palmer (Olney) ……<at the grave> …… the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs.Phipps and Son (?!).
