Found his birth record on ancestry free index - hence having second name (just P on census') - Q2 1854, Chorlton, Lancs. This says Perkins. However there are John Pirkins on marriage registry - which is more likely.

1871 Census; Living, aged 16, at 4 Trafford Mount, Stretford, Manchester with parents, 2 siblings and 2 servants. Occupation is Smallwares (Suit??) Merchant Apprentice (to his father presumably).

21 Jan 1880; Witness at sister Mary's wedding in Stretford.

1881 Census; Living, aged 26, at Laurel Bank, Harriet(?) St., Stretford, Lancs with widowed mother, sister Alice (not on previous census) and 2 servants. Occupation; Cotton Salesman.

From Wendy; John Pirkins Holbrook was a widower when he married Rosalind Nosworthy.
First marriage which you had already come across was on 11 August 1886 at St Clement Chorlton Cum Hardy to Isabella Ramsay Murray spinster full age. His father is merchant and hers David Murray a Decorator. Witnesses were E D Murray, Mary Elizabeth Holbrook and Horace Wylis

There are TWO marriages in the correct geograpical area for John Pirkins Holbrook;
a.Q3 1886, Chorlton, to either Isabella Ramsay Murray or Louiza Helen Whitehead, with the other marrying Robert Jones Cheshire. Can't find definative death record for Isabella or Louisa Holbrook in 1887 +/- 1, but there a few possibles for both.
b.Q3 1888, Altrincham - Rosalind Gertrude Nosworthy = match.

1891 Census; Living, aged 36, as head at 41 Queens Road, Didsbury, Lancs with wife and servant. Occupation; Warehouseman, looks like reasonably prosperous area - neighbours are agents, managers etc., so more likely he's a Warehouse Manager or such like.

1901 Census; Living, aged 46, as head at Fernlea, Park Road, Hale, Cheshire with wife, dau and servant. Occupation ; Wool Agent (on own a/c).

John married Isabella Ramsay Murray on 11 Aug 1886 in St.Clement's, Chorlton cum Hardy. (Isabella Ramsay Murray was born ~1855 and died on 11 Jul 1887 in 19 Albany Road, Chorlton.)

John next married Rosalind Gertrude Nosworthy, daughter of John Nosworthy and Caroline Michelle Breach, Q3 1888 in Altrincham, Cheshire. (Rosalind Gertrude Nosworthy was born in 1865 in Alderley Edge, Cheshire and died on 26 Nov 1933 in 56 Fairlawn Grove, Acton.)
