The George-Powell Annexe
The software I use to create the vast majority of this site is fantastic in terms of producing the automated exports etc., but it's not
particularly flexible in terms of adding hyperlinks, additional pictures etc. This therefore is the purpose of this additional index page.It is early days yet for this 'annexe' to the main site, but it will hopefully grow over time.
All links (apart from those to people's entries in the main database) open in a new window.Additional Documents and Pictures
Thomas James George-Powell's 5 generation pedigree (Adobe pdf format) Ann George-Powell (nee St John Wright)'s 5 generation pedigree (Adobe pdf format) Henry Bateman's death bed biography (Adobe pdf format). Pictures from Burton on Trent relating to Henry Bateman and his father Thomas Bateman. A Butt family tree (Adobe pdf format). Almost certainly some of the earlier generations shown are grossly incorrect. Either way we have not yet proved Anne (Pool's?) link to the Butt family so may be irrelevant. For more information on the possible link see Anne's page. Owners of land in Herefordshire (Adobe pdf format) in 1873 certainly showing George Powell's holding in Llanveynoe, possibly some of the other entries (eg Longtown) are also his. Aerial view of Lower Cwm Farm, Llanveynoe. Aerial view of Platch Farm, Dulas. Map showing relative proximity of Llanveynoe, Clodock, Longtown, Newton, Dulas, Ewyas Harold. George Rands' 1850 will which mentions all his (surviving) children apart from 'our' Mary Anne, but that is because she is the only child who hasn't already received something that needs to be deducted from the calculations for the 'cuts' ! Pictures from the photo album of Christopher St John Wright (Junior). An early picture of John Pirkins Wright's house at Priors Marston. There is a more modern picture on JPW's entry on the main site, and an aerial view here. Chancery cases that pertain to John Pirkins Wright's wealth;
1.Court case against his late wife's father - Wright v Vanderplank 1855.
2.His late wife's father sues to secure his daughters inheritance - Vanderplank v King 1843.
The following two cases are presumably related to each other, and also the above, but haven't been able to obtain full details yet;
3.Wright v Freeman. This related to property in Priors Marston formerly occupied by Elizabeth Langton Bradshaw.
4.There is also Millican v Vanderplank. This related to the Whilton estate which Aholiah Bradshaw left to Elizabeth Langton Bradshaw during her life, with Richard Marriot Freeman as the residuary legatee.
Current Main Queries
Who was George Powell's mother? Now (Oct 07) that I have obtained his will we know his mother was Mary, also we know she was still alive in 1841 ('cos her will is 1842) but there are two possibles on the 1841 census - one of whom is living with a James, that being George's father's name. Think I'm making progress on this after finding a grave entry ....... Who were Ann Griffiths (nee Fry)'s parents? How, if at all, does Anne Jordan (nee Pool perhaps?) tie in with the Butt and Salt families? Is William John Bateman the Gulielmus Batman christened in Burton in 1729? And who was his wife?
